no attention span
You know how they say that this generation has a short attention span? The whole bit about the MTV video game generation that needs rapid-fire flashy images & constantly changing sources of stimuli? While I don’t necessarily lump myself in that category, I definately don’t have the same attention span I used to when I was younger. I prefer lists to full sentences, bullet points to elaborately constructed prose. I have neither the patience nor the inclination to sit down and read a novel. Not because I dislike the written format, just because books require an investment that my attention span cannot afford. I can get into a textbook (broken into chapters) and will read pretty much anything that takes 10 minutes or less to complete (packaging labels, legal fine print, manuals, magazine articles, McSweeney’s short stories, etc). I blame the internet, and its infinite knowledge on every given subject and unending source of cerebral stimuli. Thanks a lot, all-knowing, all-seeing Google-god.

on the brighter side, while our attention spans for individual subjects are shorter, three hours have just passed and I’m STILL fucking glued to my computer. My brain can only focus on the same text or image for about 45 seconds, but my ass has been focused on this chair since 4:30.
