Got a Gmail account today

Today I got a rather random email from an aquaintance with an invite to get a Gmail account.

My first impression was not-so-great. Gmail isn’t compatible with Opera (my browser of choice) so I have to load Mozilla Firebird in order to check my account. A minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience no less. For some reason Internet Explorer is all wonky on my laptop (it doesn’t display table colors and fonts are screwy), so I don’t even bother with it. I also have two emails as it is, so as of right now Gmail is really just one more email. My permanent (i.e. life-long) email address is firstname@lastname.com, so I rarely give that out or post it online. My other email account, trainque@hotmail.com, I’ve had for so long that I’m not 100% positive I want to change it. Perhaps at some point, but not right now.

To be frank, I find it hard to believe so many people are making such a big deal over Gmail. Personally, I enjoy using an email program (such as Outlook) to organize/store/archive emails.

Perhaps if I start using it more I might eventually be won over by Gmail. More on that later.
