River Gods: one of Boston’s best kept secrets
Last night Jamie, his friend Jason, and myself all grabbed dinner at River Gods on River Street in Cambridge. It’s always been a favorite of mine, for a few reasons.
Reason one: The best french fries in Boston, no contest. Seriously. These are awesome fries, seasoned and served with stinky malt vinegar and garlic aioli sauce. These are so good they make the trip worthwhile alone. Prove me wrong; I dare you.
Reason two: Steak sandwiches. The steak sandwiches at River Gods (cliche coming ) melt in your mouth. Topped with boursin cheese and a toasted bun. Awesome.
Reason three: affordable. The aforementioned steak sandwiches are about $10. Beers are $3-$4.
Reason four: atmosphere. River Gods has its own little thing going on. It’s decorated with angel sculptures, large Middle Ages-style wooden chair, and miscellaneous things like a suit of armor. In terms of size, it’s small and cozy (last night was tightly packed, but weekend afternoons are dead). The heat is cranked up real high, perfect for those brutally cold Boston nights like last night. Oh, and they have nightly djs playing not-so-bad music. (Rumor has it they are doing a bootleg, mashup-themed night– will check that out and report back to you).
Here’s the essential info:
River Gods 125 River Street, Cambridge, MA phone: (617) 576-1881 open daily from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. food is served until 10 p.m.
