The Talking Severed Floating Styrofoam Head
Yes, the past really can come back to haunt you. Case in point: this evening I received an email from someone identifying himself as “the yeti” with the link to http://www.styrofoamhead.com/ .
Rewind about 8 or 9 years. When I was about 17 years old I used to work at the John Fitch Market Basket with a bunch of guys that had their own Fitchburg cable access television show. The show was a variety show called The Talking Severed Floating Styrofoam Head, and I had the pleasure of having a (somewhat) recurring role in the show. I probably took part in 6 or 7 of the 14 episodes.
My role: The “crazy” guy that’d do anything. One time I ate a live goldfish on live TV. Another time I “slit my wrists” using a prop razor. Another time I drank the contents of a glow-stick from a shotglass. On another stunt, I was going to “hang myself” on live TV using a mountain-climbing harness, but some parents caught wind of the shtick and put an end to that plan.
As you can probably tell, the show was pretty nuts for a crappy local cable access program in central Mass.
Yeah, so up until tonight I hadn’t really thought much about that show. But videos have surfaced online at the aforementioned http://www.styrofoamhead.com/ .
From the site:
Okay, so for those of you that don’t know, The Talking Severed Floating Styrofoam Head was a local cable access variety show that ran for two years. There were a total of 14 episodes that were aired live during the summer of 1995 and 1996. It was a little wacky, very low-budget, but most of all, it was a whole lot of fun.
This site is dedicated to everyone who helped make this show a reality.
One of videos is a re-make of the Jane’s Addiction Been Caught Stealing Video, but starring the characters from the TV show. This was in the height of Jane’s Addiction craze, mind you, so it made perfect sense.
And, yes, the platinum blonde guy drinking Drano, stealing ice cream, and dressing in (pregnant) drag is yours truly.
