I miss the old Weekly Dig
Posted 3 years, 8 months ago - 4 comments
Fellow Bostonians, do you remember:
When you weren’t embarrassed to pick up a copy of the Weekly Dig?
When the cover didn’t show a bunch of shithead eurotrash clubbers drinking martinis?
When they actually reviewed music you hadn’t already heard of?
When covers had things like of a picture of dead Rodney Dangerfield and Superman getting drunk in heaven’s bar?
When you could read Book of Sick every Wednesday?
Yeah, I do too. Those were the good old days.

I’m really disappointed that they thought it was ecologically sensible to dump countless thousands of AOL cds all over the Boston area. They should know that no one likes AOL cds and will leave them in the boxes or elsewhere. On top of that it’s not anything that could be construed as ‘cool’, so why do it in the first place?
You are absolutely right! I had my suspicions after attending the relaunch party for the Dig at the Roxy (one of the lamest and dullest events ever) a few months back. I was afraid that after selling out to Boston Magazine the publication would lose the edge that made it worth more than its cover price. I was right. In a word, the Dig 2.0 SUCKS!
I too attended the relaunch party (it was at Axis, no?). I wrote about it here.
Actually, looking back at my predictions from back in January, I guess I wasn’t that far off.
Whatever, dig was lame in the first place. I stopped reading after they canned Natasha Says.
