movie: The Aristocrats

A man walks into a talent agency…

This past weekend I went to see the documentary movie The Aristocrats.

Background: Among comedians, there’s this inside joke where the punchline is “The Aristocrats.” It’s not a particularly funny joke, but it has evolved into somewhat of an in-joke within comedian circles.

What makes this joke interesting is that the joke is an opportunity for comedians to tell some of the most disgusting, offensive, vile material possible, including incest, bestiality, rape, wastes and bodily fluids, and murder.

In this documentary, some of today’s best comedians and comedy writers - Drew Carey, Bob Saget, Whoopi Goldberg, Gilbert Gottfried, Martin Mull, Andy Dick, Jon Stewart, Howie Mandel, Phyllis Diller, Jon Ross, Mario Cantone, Eric Mead, Penn & Teller, Sarah Silverman, Fred Willard, Paul Reiser, George Carlin, & many others - either tell their own versions of the joke or attempt to explain why the joke is such a hit among themselves.

Not for the sensitive (or sensible), this movie had me cracking up. Hilarious, just a little disturbing, but a must-see for anyone with a sick sense of humor. Rated NC-17 (for language).
